Running, charity & eye gazing.

The deep end of marathon training, £800 raised, and looking a stranger in the eye on Grafton Street.

Running, charity & eye gazing

Shifting the consciousness of humanity one gaze at a time

3 weeks since the last post and were coming to the deep end of training for the Dublin Marathon and thoughts, flights, trekking and all things China.

I’ve been feeling the pressure of training more than I show trusting in listening to my body, mind and energy if it needs a rest it’s fully given it, meaning missing long run’s and suffering through others while maintaining the constant drive Monday through Friday were quality is paramount. Intervals have been embraced, long miles encountered and fitness has improved, many thanks must go to the ramblings of Mick, David & Andrew for this who all have their stories….but what’s said on a run stays there!!

The usual mental guilt of missing a run still nags, however, it feels good to block out the frustration and anxious thoughts of old. Instead, my mental toolbox is well equipped now, doing the things I like: eating, socialising, getting into bed at night and reading a book – simple things that I enjoy and no more fixation with “The Goal” as was/is the past.

Marathon training is all-consuming it can be terrible, sore, tired, sick, exhausted, grumpy, hard to live with so many clichés’s so why do it? Maybe ask the sold-out event that is Dublin Marathon with 20,000 entrants and no entries accepted from June time.

For me it’s the challenge but one that I promise I will need a break from. Even though I feel fit and healthy especially after many immunisations for China.

Eye Gazing – Human Connection

Many will say the plot has been lost but I’m thoroughly intrigued by the idea of eye gazing, deep human connection, emotions, vulnerability so off I trekked with Karen to the bustle of Saturday trading in one of Dublin’s busiest streets, Grafton.

Buskers everywhere so the “vibe” was relaxed. Have to say I was slightly excited more so than Karen I’ve been a follower of the Human Connection Movement which is all over Austrailia for possibly 2 years so to see an event in Ireland like this was truly positive & powerful it was a fantastic event with wonderful energy and the processing of my thoughts after it was detailed and complex. The sense of human connection with a stranger on a deep emotional level was and is in its entirety what it’s all about. Not sure Downpatrick is quite ready for it though 🙂

I’m off to Innsbruck (Austria) via Munich for the weekend (Cycling World Championship) so no long run maybe a trek in the many mountains around the Chalet in prep for the journey to China in less than 3 weeks and a refreshed vision of somewhere different to look at other than the Quoile.

Charity Body Pump

My first charity event on Saturday 8th September was an immense success with roughly £800 raised hard to believe how many amazing humans turned up that day or just give a thought to me or the cause you’re all superstars in my eyes.

Extremely grateful to Tel’s Fitness, Downpatrick (Andrew Telford) for use of the venue and taking one of the hour slots. The Daily Grind (Johnny Maloney) for taking the other. A great fun morning and a few sore wee legs and arms after a few days.

Fundraising

JustGiving page

The many people who have given of their money are truly inspiring, I don’t expect much and realise that everyone is always being tagged with a begging bowl for the many different charities locally and nationally, this whole trip is funded by me for me, and with that process I intend to raise as much as I can for Diabetes Uk & Kidney Research Uk so any pound or pence is always welcomed.
